Abstract

ABSTRACT Academic procrastination is a common problem among students and can affect discipline as well as delays in completing academic tasks. This study aimed to examine the effect of behavioral counseling using the behavior contract technique on academic procrastination among eleventh-grade students at SMKN 1 Keruak. The research employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 16 students selected through purposive sampling based on a high level of academic procrastination. Data were collected using a questionnaire as the main instrument, supported by observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test to determine the difference between pretest and posttest scores after the intervention. The results of the analysis indicated that the implementation of behavioral counseling with the behavior contract technique had a significant effect on reducing students’ academic procrastination behavior. These findings indicate that the behavior contract technique can help students increase their commitment to completing academic tasks and reduce the tendency to delay their academic responsibilities. Therefore, the behavior contract technique in behavioral counseling can be used as an alternative strategy in school guidance and counseling services to support the development of students’ discipline, responsibility, and effective time management in learning. ABSTRAK Prokrastinasi akademik merupakan salah satu permasalahan yang sering terjadi di kalangan siswa dan dapat berdampak pada rendahnya kedisiplinan serta keterlambatan dalam menyelesaikan tugas belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konseling behavioral dengan teknik behavior contract terhadap perilaku prokrastinasi akademik pada siswa kelas XI di SMKN 1 Keruak. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan desain one group pretest-posttest. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 16 siswa yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan tingkat prokrastinasi akademik yang tinggi. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui angket sebagai instrumen utama yang didukung oleh observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji paired sample t-test untuk mengetahui perbedaan skor sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penerapan konseling behavioral dengan teknik behavior contract memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap penurunan perilaku prokrastinasi akademik siswa. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik behavior contract dapat membantu siswa meningkatkan komitmen dalam menyelesaikan tugas serta mengurangi kecenderungan menunda pekerjaan akademik. Dengan demikian, teknik behavior contract dalam konseling behavioral dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai salah satu strategi layanan bimbingan dan konseling di sekolah untuk membantu siswa mengembangkan kedisiplinan dan tanggung jawab dalam kegiatan belajar.
