This study has three main aims: (1) to describe the listening skills in explanatory texts of grade IX students at SMP Negeri 7 Padang, (2) to describe the writing skills in explanatory texts of grade IX students at SMP Negeri 7 Padang, and (3) to describe the correlation between listening skills and writing skills in explanatory texts of grade IX students at SMP Negeri 7 Padang.This research is quantitative in nature and employs a descriptive method. The data were collected through an objective test for listening skills and a performance test for writing explanatory texts. The results indicate three points. First, the students’ listening skills in explanatory texts are categorized as more than adequate, with an average score of 73.119. Second, the students’ writing skills in explanatory texts fall into the adequate category, with an average score of 65. Third, the correlation test indicates that 0,629 > 0,396. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between listening skills and writing skills in explanatory texts among class IX students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang.
