Abstract

Literacy skills are one of the most important aspects for every student in the learning process, however, the scientific writing skills of students of SMA N 1 Kamang Magek are still below the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM), learning is still teacher-centered, and students do not understand the structure of scientific work in depth. This study aims to determine students' writing skills before and after the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model, and to examine whether there is a significant influence of the implementation of the PjBL model based on local wisdom. The method used is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design with a nonequivalent control group design. The results showed that the average score in the experimental group was higher than the control group for all indicators, namely content development with a comparison result of 89.6 > 84.4, scientific work structure with a comparison result of 93.1 > 90.5, linguistic rules with a comparison result of 91.3 > 80.1, and EYD with a comparison result of 70.6 > 69.0. The results of the mean difference test (t-test) produced a t_count>t_table (2.82>2.048) with significance at the 95% level, which means there is a significant influence of the application of the Project Based Learning model based on West Sumatra local wisdom on students' scientific writing skills. It can be concluded that the scientific writing skills of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Kamang Magek using the project based learning model based on West Sumatra local wisdom are better than using the learning model without using the project based learning model based on West Sumatra local wisdom.
