Abstract

This research originates from the problem of low reading interest among 8th-grade students, which is caused by a lack of enthusiasm toward reading activities. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of Digital Literacy and Literacy Culture on the Reading Interest of 8th-grade students at SMPS Ariya Metta. This research employs a quantitative method with an ex post facto approach. The sample was taken using a saturated sampling technique, in which the entire population of 85 students was included as research subjects. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire distributed online via Google Forms. The instruments used were tested for validity and reliability, while data analysis applied descriptive statistics, multiple linear regression, hypothesis testing with t-test and F-test, as well as the coefficient of determination test. The results of hypothesis testing showed that all proposed hypotheses were accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that Digital Literacy and Literacy Culture significantly influence the Reading Interest of 8th-grade students at SMPS Ariya Metta. Therefore, strengthening Digital Literacy and Literacy Culture within the school environment is essential to enhance students’ reading interest at the junior high school level.
