This study analyzes the strategies employed by the religious institution Persatuan IslamĀ in dominating social religious interests in Sumenep, Madura. Puritanism in this study does not present a harsh ideology, but rather a socially friendly one by controlling important social spaces such as markets, education, and family needs. This research is unique because in Madura, which is known for being religious and dominated by two major sects (Nahdhatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah), it can be dominated by puritanism. This type of research is qualitative with a case study approach, in which Persis builds and maintains its dominance over local religious groups in Madura within the local socio-religious system. Primary data was obtained through interviews with Persis administrators and congregants. The results of the study show that puritanical dominance is built through strategies that touch on social aspects. The emphasis on puritanism is carried out by controlling the understanding of religious texts, thereby forming a uniform mindset. At the same time, control of the market, cooperatives, and Islamic boarding schools strengthens the economic and institutional position of the Persis sect, thereby establishing trust, leadership, and spiritual bonds.
