Abstract

This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) investigates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is integrated into 21st-century skills–oriented curricula in formal education. The study addresses the growing needs of digital transformation and the global shift toward AI-driven learning ecosystems. Using the PRISMA method, 35 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2023–2025 were identified, screened, and analyzed. The review reveals four major approaches to AI curriculum integration: AI literacy development, computational thinking, AI as a pedagogical tool, and ethical AI education. Findings show that AI integration enhances students’ creativity, digital literacy, problem-solving, data analysis, and communication skills across primary, secondary, and higher education. Pedagogical models such as blended learning, project-based learning, experiential learning, and metaverse-based learning demonstrate significant impact on learning outcomes. However, several challenges remain, including teacher readiness, infrastructure gaps, ethical concerns, and unequal access to technology. Overall, AI acts as a catalyst for curriculum modernization, offering substantial potential for future-oriented education when supported by adequate training, policies, and ethical frameworks
