ABSTRACT Students’ low ability to re-explain learning materials and apply mathematical concepts to problem-solving indicates that their conceptual understanding in mathematics still needs improvement through innovative learning models. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Group Investigation (GI) learning model on the mathematical conceptual understanding ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Buton. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were collected through tests of mathematical conceptual understanding, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and simple linear regression analysis to test the research hypothesis. The findings showed that the pretest and posttest data were normally distributed, with significance values of 0.055 and 0.616, respectively, which were greater than 0.05. The hypothesis testing revealed that the t_count value of 4.228 was higher than the t_table value of 2.052, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the Group Investigation learning model had a significant effect on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding ability. The effect size of the Group Investigation learning model reached 39.8%, while the remaining 60.2% was influenced by other variables not examined in this study. Therefore, the Group Investigation learning model can be considered an effective alternative learning strategy to improve students’ mathematical conceptual understanding. ABSTRAK Rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menjelaskan kembali materi dan mengaplikasikan konsep matematika pada soal menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konsep matematis siswa masih perlu ditingkatkan melalui penerapan model pembelajaran yang inovatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Group Investigation (GI) terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Buton. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian eksperimen semu (quasi experiment) menggunakan desain pretest-posttest control group design. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro-Wilk dan uji regresi linear sederhana untuk menguji hipotesis penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa data pretest dan posttest berdistribusi normal dengan nilai signifikansi masing-masing sebesar 0,055 dan 0,616 yang lebih besar dari 0,05. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan nilai t_hitung sebesar 4,228 lebih besar dibandingkan t_tabel sebesar 2,052 dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05, sehingga model pembelajaran Group Investigation berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Besaran pengaruh model pembelajaran Group Investigation terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa mencapai 39,8%, sedangkan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar penelitian. Dengan demikian, model pembelajaran Group Investigation dapat menjadi alternatif pembelajaran yang efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa.
