Abstract

Gout arthritis is a metabolic disease influenced by a high-purine consumption pattern. However, many gout sufferers in wetland areas still lack adequate knowledge about a low-purine diet. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge about gout diet and dietary behavior among gout sufferers in wetland areas. A descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used. A total of 123 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test and odds ratio. The results showed that the majority of respondents had low knowledge (56.1%) and poor dietary behavior (60.2%). A significant relationship was found between knowledge about gout diet and dietary behavior among gout sufferers in wetland areas (p = 0.010; OR = 2.842; 95% CI = 1.348–5.993). Improving knowledge about gout diet should be prioritized in community nursing interventions, particularly in wetland communities.
