Problem solving skills are important skills that must be possessed by students since elementary school level, in science learning, this skill is very important to help students understand scientific concepts and apply them in everyday life. The purpose of this study was to improve problem solving skills in science learning on the characteristics of living things. The research location was SDN Risa. Quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design that did not use a control group. The subjects in this study were all third grade students consisting of 20 students. The data collection technique used in this study was a test. The test instrument consisted of 10 essay questions, an initial test (pretest) and a final test (posttest) which aimed to determine students' problem solving skills before and after treatment, a questionnaire to determine students' responses to crossword puzzle media and observations to understand student interactions and their responses to crossword puzzle media. The data analysis used was the N-Gain test which showed a value of 0.76 which was included in the moderate category and the effectiveness level score was in the fairly effective category, thus the crossword puzzle media was effectively used in improving students' problem-solving skills at SDN Risa where the average pretest score was 57% and the average posttest score was 90%..
