<![CDATA[by word card media for fourth-grade students at SDN Gebang 01 Bangkalan, Madura. The Make a Match model was chosen because no previous research has integrated Make a Match with word card media specifically for new vocabulary learning in regular elementary schools, particularly in the coastal area of Bangkalan which is geographically vulnerable to natural disasters. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 17 students. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and tests. The results showed that student activity increased from 69.2% in cycle I to 92.0% in cycle II. Learning outcomes also improved from an average score of 55% in the pre-research stage to 68.2% in cycle I and 93.5% in cycle II. Learning mastery increased from 17.6% to 94.1%. In addition, students showed more positive responses toward the learning process. Therefore, the Make a Match learning model assisted by word card media was effective in improving students’ understanding of new vocabulary about disaster mitigation.
