This research aims to analyze the position and role of the Depati Adat Tanjung Tanah Institution in the administration of village government in Tanjung Tanah Village, Danau Kerinci District. The study uses an empirical juridical method by collecting data through interviews, documentation, and observation. The findings indicate that Depati Adat possesses three types of legitimacy: traditional legitimacy rooted in hereditary succession; administrative legitimacy through Village Regulations and Decrees of the Village Head; and social legitimacy through public recognition. Depati Adat plays a significant role in customary leadership, dispute resolution, social order preservation, and serving as a strategic partner to the village government in decision-making processes. The research shows that the Depati institution contributes to harmonizing customary law and formal state law in local governance.
