Tuberculosis is a contagious infectious disease that attacks the lungs and can cause a decline in the immune system, increasing the risk of opportunistic infections, one of which is caused by Candida albicans. This study aimed to isolate and identify Candida albicans in the sputum of tuberculosis patients undergoing intensive treatment. The study used a descriptive laboratory method with 10 sputum samples from tuberculosis patients in the intensive phase. Examination was performed through culture using Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) media, macroscopic and microscopic observation with lactophenol cotton blue solution, Gram staining, and the Germ Tube test. The results showed that 3 of the 10 samples (30%) were positive for Candida albicans based on colony characteristics, microscopic results, and the Germ Tube test. Two positive samples came from male patients and one sample came from a female patient aged 50–65 years. Based on these results, it can be concluded that opportunistic Candida albicans infections occur in some tuberculosis patients undergoing intensive treatment. Early identification of fungal coinfections is crucial to support successful therapy and prevent further complications in tuberculosis patients.
