Abstract

This article examines the evolution of Islamic education in Malaysia, focusing on the challenges and opportunities faced within the social, cultural, and government policy contexts. The purpose of this study is to analyze various aspects influencing Islamic education, including the curriculum and educational institutions. The method used is a qualitative approach, through literature review, observation, and interviews with educational experts. The results show that Islamic education has transformed from an informal system to a formal institution that integrates Islamic values into the national curriculum. Despite the increase in the number of Islamic educational institutions, challenges such as the lack of integration between the general curriculum and religious education remain a concern. Students often struggle to connect Islamic teachings with contemporary issues. The implications of these findings emphasize the need to develop more comprehensive educational strategies and policies to improve the quality of Islamic education. This research is expected to serve as a foundation for Islamic education reform in Malaysia, in order to shape a young generation that is not only academically intelligent but also possesses strong character and is relevant to global challenges.
