Abstract

ABSTRACT Based on observations of the learning process at SMK Negeri 5 Medan, it was found that students learning outcomes in the basic technique element of the subject Fundamentals of Modeling and Building Information have not yet reached the expected level. The learning process is still dominated by the Direct Instruction model in the form of lectures and written assignments. This condition indicates the need for innovation in selecting learning models to improve students learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the significant effect of implementing the Reciprocal Teaching model on learning outcomes in the basic technique element of the subject Modeling Design and Building Information Work, and to compare it with the Direct Instruction model among tenth grade DPIB students at SMK Negeri 5 Medan in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. This research employed a quantitative approach using a true experimental design with a control group pretest posttest type. The research population consisted of all tenth grade DPIB students selected through cluster random sampling, with class X DPIB 1 assigned as the control group and class X DPIB 2 as the experimental group. Data were collected through objective tests and documentation. The results showed that the average learning outcomes of students taught using the Reciprocal Teaching model were 80.94, while those taught using the Direct Instruction model achieved an average score of 67.82. The t-test results indicated a significance value of 0.00 < 0.05, leading to the conclusion that the Reciprocal Teaching model has a significant effect and produces higher learning outcomes compared to the Direct Instruction model.
