Abstract

Abstract: The excessive use of chemical fertilizers and the suboptimal utilization of livestock waste have become agricultural challenges in Sidodadi Village, Ngantang Subdistrict, Malang Regency. The Eco-Char program aims to strengthen the capacity of 20 youth organization (Karang Taruna) members in processing organic waste into biochar and liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). The implementation method refers to the Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA) through the Skill-Up, Action, and Legacy stages. The evaluation was measured using a pre-test and post-test with four indicators: understanding of waste hazards, biochar concepts, production procedures, and the circular economy. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in the average score from 46.25 to 86.85, representing an 88.2% improvement in comprehension. The partners successfully produced biochar and LOF independently and established the "Jawara Eco-Char" institution to ensure program sustainability. Overall, the Eco-Char program proved effective in empowering village youth to support sustainable agriculture based on local resources.
