Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the full day school policy in shaping the character of students. The background of this research is the phenomenon of declining student behavior, such as cheating, brawling, and truancy, as well as the increasing crime rate of adolescents who demand moral improvement through educational institutions. The research method used is a qualitative approach with the type of library research, where data is collected from national journals, scientific books, and related policy documents to be analyzed descriptively. The results of the study show that the implementation of full day school in shaping students' character is carried out through three main activities, namely: learning activities, school culture (through routine, spontaneous, exemplary, and conditioning activities), and extracurricular activities. The full day school policy has a positive effect on character formation because this system increases the interaction time of students under the guidance of teachers so as to minimize the negative influence of the outside environment. In addition, character formation occurs through a hidden curriculum, where discipline, habituation, and teacher exemplification are key factors in instilling religious values and noble morals in students. The results of this study show that the full day school policy is an effective educational strategy to optimize the formation of students' character, faith, and morals in response to the increasing challenges of juvenile delinquency and declining morality. The implementation of a full day school is not only about extending learning time, but also integrating the curriculum and activities (integrated curriculum and integrated activities) to instill positive values holistically. The main points of the success of this policy include: Character Building Method, character is formed through three main paths, namely effective learning activities, school culture (through routine habituation, spontaneous activities, and conditioning), and extracurricular activities that develop interests, talents, and organizational skills.
