This study aims to examine junior high school students’ perceptions of deep learning in Indonesian Language subject and to explore its relationship with their learning motivation. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using a single-case study design. The research subject was one eighth-grade student selected purposively as the key informant. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews conducted online, without requiring physical presence at the school. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014), encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing with verification. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through member checking, theory triangulation, and persistent observation. The findings of this study are expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of students’ views on meaningful learning experiences and their contribution to developing intrinsic motivation in Indonesian Language learning within the context of the Merdeka Curriculum.
