Students' writing skills in Indonesia remain low, with main obstacles including difficulty developing ideas, improper use of spelling and grammar, and low motivation. This study aims to: (1) examine the concept of deep learning in the context of Indonesian language education, and (2) analyze the implementation of this approach to improve students' writing skills. The method used is a systematic literature review by analyzing 20 indexed national journal articles published in the last five years (2020–2025). The results show that deep learning is proven effective in improving students' writing skills across various text types (rhymes, procedures, descriptions, fantasy stories, anecdotes) and across educational levels (elementary, junior high, senior high/vocational school). This approach encourages active engagement, intrinsic motivation, and metacognitive development through project-based learning, self-reflection, collaboration, and authentic assessment. Deep learning is adaptive to the Merdeka Curriculum and relevant for overcoming writing challenges in the digital era.
