Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and preparedness of high school students and teachers by increasing students' capacity for disaster mitigation with Virtual Reality (VR)-based methods as educational media. The community service program was implemented at Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School High School using educational or socialization methods, the use of VR media for students, simulations and mentoring and evaluation of activities with 50 students. The results of the program implementation showed an increase in enthusiasm and active involvement of students in the learning process, an increase in students' basic understanding of the types of coastal disasters and appropriate mitigation steps, and an increase in students' capacity in utilizing technology-based learning media. With the results of the pretest and posttest on the students' answers to the first question, the increase in students' capacity regarding disasters, pretest 62% became a posttest result of 76%, on the second question regarding various disasters, pretest 58% became a posttest result of 72%, on the third question regarding disaster factors, pretest 56% became a posttest result of 70%, on the fourth question regarding preparedness, pretest 44% became a posttest result of 78%, on the fifth question regarding various natural disasters, pretest 60% became a posttest result of 80%, on the sixth question regarding preparedness in schools, pretest 56% became a posttest result of 79%, on the seventh question regarding disaster management in schools, pretest 36% became a posttest result of 72%, on the eighth question regarding self-evacuation in schools, pretest 42% became a posttest result of 84%, on the ninth question regarding disaster simulation through virtual reality, 38% became a posttest result of 74%, on the tenth question regarding virtual reality learning experiences, pretest 37% with a posttest result of 79%, test as much as 86%
