<![CDATA[The Special Region of Yogyakarta is highly prone to geological and hydrometeorological disasters; consequently, school community preparedness is a crucial component of disaster risk reduction efforts. This community service initiative aimed to enhance disaster preparedness knowledge and skills among new students through the Disaster-Safe Education Unit (SPAB) program. The activities were conducted during the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) at three secondary schools MTs Negeri 5 Sleman, SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Yogyakarta, and MTs Negeri 5 Bantul as a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan and the DIY SPAB Joint Secretariat. A participatory learning approach was employed, integrating the assessment of prior knowledge, disaster education, first aid practice, and earthquake emergency response simulations. The results indicated that, initially, most participants were familiar with the term "disaster" but lacked an understanding of mitigation concepts and proper evacuation procedures. Following the activities, participants demonstrated improved understanding of disaster concepts; they were able to perform basic first aid techniques such as wound dressing and splinting and execute the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" procedure followed by evacuation to designated assembly points. However, challenges remained, specifically regarding student panic and suboptimal teacher involvement. This initiative contributes to fostering a disaster-safe school culture and implementing the SPAB program, while recommending periodic training, routine simulations, and the establishment of school disaster preparedness teams as follow-up measures.]]>
