Abstract

Prophetic leadership development in pesantren is often approached through normative value transmission, while praxis-oriented processes linking communication training and organisational experience remain insufficiently examined as an integrated framework. This study aimed to analyse the roles of muhadharah and the Al-Quraniyah Student Organisation (OSAQ) in developing prophetic leadership, the internalisation of shidiq, amanah, tabligh, and fathanah, and the factors supporting and inhibiting this process. A qualitative case study was conducted at Al-Quraniyah Islamic Boarding School, South Bengkulu, from January to March 2026. Ten informants were purposively selected, comprising one pesantren leader, three teacher-supervisors, and six active students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and document analysis and were thematically analysed using combined deductive–inductive coding. Credibility was strengthened through source and method triangulation, limited member checking, and an audit trail. The findings demonstrate that muhadharah primarily developed confidence, communication competence, forum management, tabligh, and amanah, whereas OSAQ strengthened planning, coordination, deliberation, problem-solving, and decision-making, reflecting amanah, shidiq, and fathanah. These values were internalised through role rotation, direct responsibility, repeated practice, and supervisor evaluation. The process was supported by programme regularity and sustained mentoring but constrained by variations in readiness, low self-confidence among some students, and influences from social and digital environments. This study identifies muhadharah and OSAQ as complementary arenas of practice and conceptualises prophetic leadership as a contextual and experience-based educational process.
