<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the implementation of beginning reading assistance using the ABACAGA book in Indonesian language learning for grade IV students at MI Ar-Rohman. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with six students who still needed beginning reading assistance. Data were collected through observation, reading tests, teacher interviews, student interviews, and documentation. The assistance was carried out in six meetings for approximately 60 minutes each. The activities started from identifying initial reading ability, introducing letters, reading syllables, reading simple words, reading simple sentences, and understanding simple messages in short texts. The findings show that students had different initial reading abilities. After the assistance, all students showed improvement by one to two developmental levels. The strongest progress appeared in recognizing letters, reading syllables, reading simple words, and increasing confidence when reading. However, reading simple sentences, reading worksheets, and understanding text messages still require continuous practice. The ABACAGA book can be used as a gradual reading medium because it presents reading material from simple to more complex forms and supports direct assistance in Indonesian language learning.]]>
