Abstract

Education is an important factor in improving the quality of human resources. In science and social studies (IPAS) learning on energy sources material in grade IV at SD Negeri 2 Landih, Bangli Regency, several problems were found, including low student participation in discussions, lack of self-confidence in expressing opinions, and low learning motivation. Therefore, a learning model that encourages students’ active involvement is needed, one of which is the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This study aims to determine: (1) the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in IPAS learning on energy sources material for grade IV at SD Negeri 2 Landih, Bangli Regency, (2) the obstacles and efforts in implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, and (3) the implications of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the IPAS learning process on energy sources material. This study employed learning motivation theory and constructivism theory using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model was carried out through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The obstacles found included low learning motivation, lack of students’ self-confidence, and limited learning time. Efforts to overcome these obstacles were carried out through motivation, discussion assistance, communication between teachers and students, and effective time management. The implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model had positive implications in increasing students’ curiosity, learning motivation, and learning outcomes.
