This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in enhancing students’ learning motivation at MTs Nurul Ulum Sumber Nongko Pagak Malang. This research employed a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the dominant role of PAI teachers in improving students’ learning motivation is manifested through exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah), reflected in religious attitudes, discipline, responsibility, and consistency in both teaching practices and daily interactions. Such exemplary conduct contributes to the development of students’ intrinsic motivation through processes of identification and internalization of values. As a result, learning is not only oriented toward cognitive aspects but also toward character building. This study highlights that teachers’ personal competence plays a strategic role in fostering students’ learning motivation, particularly in Islamic-based educational institutions.
