Abstract: The palm oil processing industry has high production demands and operates continuously for 24 hours, which has the potential to create mental workload among production operators, especially under shift work systems. This study aims to analyze the mental workload level of production operators based on work shifts using the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) method at PT Mutiara Agam. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 100 production operators consisting of 50 morning-shift operators and 50 night-shift operators. Data collection was conducted through observations and the distribution of NASA-TLX questionnaires consisting of six dimensions: Mental Demand, Physical Demand, Temporal Demand, Performance, Effort, and Frustration Level. The results indicated that night-shift operators experienced higher mental workload levels compared to morning-shift operators. The dominant factors influencing mental workload during the night shift were temporal demand, effort, and mental demand due to production target pressures and long working hours. Meanwhile, morning-shift operators also experienced high mental workload, particularly in the aspects of physical demand and work performance. Overall, the findings revealed that the 12-hour shift work system increased mental fatigue and had the potential to reduce operator concentration and productivity. Proposed improvements include rescheduling shift systems, increasing rest periods, implementing job rotation, and improving the work environment to reduce the mental fatigue experienced by production operators. Abstrak: Industri pengolahan kelapa sawit memiliki tuntutan produksi yang tinggi dan beroperasi secara kontinu selama 24 jam sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan beban kerja mental pada operator produksi, terutama pada sistem kerja shift. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat beban kerja mental operator produksi berdasarkan shift kerja menggunakan metode National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) di PT Mutiara Agam. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 100 operator produksi yang terdiri dari 50 operator shift pagi dan 50 operator shift malam. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan penyebaran kuesioner NASA-TLX yang terdiri atas enam dimensi, yaitu Mental Demand, Physical Demand, Temporal Demand, Performance, Effort, dan Frustration Level. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa operator shift malam memiliki tingkat beban kerja mental lebih tinggi dibandingkan shift pagi. Faktor dominan yang memengaruhi beban kerja mental pada shift malam adalah kebutuhan waktu, usaha, dan kebutuhan mental akibat tekanan target produksi serta durasi kerja yang panjang. Sementara itu, operator shift pagi juga mengalami beban kerja mental tinggi terutama pada aspek kebutuhan fisik dan performansi kerja. Secara umum, hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa sistem kerja shift 12 jam menyebabkan peningkatan kelelahan mental dan berpotensi menurunkan konsentrasi serta produktivitas operator. Usulan perbaikan yang diberikan meliputi pengaturan ulang jadwal shift, penambahan waktu istirahat, rotasi kerja, serta perbaikan lingkungan kerja untuk mengurangi tingkat kelelahan mental operator produksi.
