Abstract

The objectives of this study are to determine the early reading skills of second-grade students at Lawangan Daya 2 Public Elementary School, to identify the factors affecting the early reading skills of second-grade students at Lawangan Daya 2 Public Elementary School, and to determine the efforts made to improve the early reading skills of second-grade students at Lawangan Daya2PublicElementary School. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with observation using data collection techniques in the form of interviews, test results, and documentation. The results of this study are as follows: Reading difficulties at SDN Lawangan Daya 2 are triggered by a combination of intellectual factors (poor visual discrimination and memory) and physiological factors (indication sof dyslexia and neurological limitations). This condition causes students to not only be hampered in technical pronunciation, but also to lose the cognitive capacity to understand the meaning of what they read.
