Abstract

Financial well-being (FWB) is defined as a condition in which individuals can meet their current financial obligations while maintaining confidence in their future financial situation, thereby reducing concerns about financial insecurity. Future time perspective (FTP), which reflects the capacity to set long-term goals and strategically utilize opportunities to achieve them, has been suggested as a potential predictor of FWB. However, empirical evidence in the Indonesian context remains limited. The present study investigated the influence of FTP on FWB among employees in Indonesia. A total of 134 participants (54 men, 80 women), aged 18–40 years, who had been employed for more than two years and earned their own income, completed the Future Time Perspective Scale (α = 0.863) and the InCharge Financial Distress/Financial Well-being Scale (α = 0.909). Both instruments were translated into Indonesian using a cross-cultural adaptation procedure, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; N = 200) was conducted to establish validity evidence. Simple Linier Regression analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics version 23 demonstrated that FTP did not significantly predict FWB (p = 0.732). Similarly, correlation analysis revealed no significant association between the two variables (p = 0.372). These findings suggest that FTP alone may not adequately explain variations in FWB. Future research should consider incorporating additional internal and external factors to provide a more comprehensive understanding of financial well-being among employees in Indonesia.
