Abstract

The problem examined in this study is motivated by conflicts occurring within the family between the father and the mother. When conflicts occur, the father tends to remain silent to avoid being carried away by emotions and then tries to find the best solution. However, the student perceives this behavior as the father avoiding the problem, which results in the student feeling less close to the father. The purpose of this study is to describe the student’s self-adjustment in facing family conflict as viewed from several aspects, namely: (1) negative self-adjustment and (2) positive self-adjustment. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Sijunjung. The key informant in this study was one student, while the additional informants were two parents, and the expert informant was a guidance and counseling teacher. The instruments used in this research were observation and interviews. The data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study reveal that: (1) the student shows positive self-adjustment, and (2) the parents have attempted to find solutions so that the conflict can be resolved without negatively affecting the student’s self-adjustment. Based on this research, it is recommended that guidance and counseling teachers provide services to students to help address issues related to negative self-adjustment.
