Abstract

Patient characteristics are specific attributes distinguishing one patient from another, including gender, age, occupation, income and economic status, education, and the source of treatment financing. Dyspepsia is a cluster of symptoms originating from the gastroduodenal region, such as epigastric pain or burning, a sense of fullness after eating, and early satiety. This study aims to determine the relationship between characteristics of inpatients’ dyspepsia and length of stay. It was an analytical study utilizing a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 232 inpatients diagnosed with dyspepsia, identified through disease indexing. Data were collected via interviews and observations and subsequently analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the inpatient profile was dominated by the 45–65 age group, females, JKN (National Health Insurance) participants, patients discharged with a "recovered" status, Class III A care, internal medicine services, and patients from the Surakarta region. The Chi-Square test results indicated that the payment method was significantly associated with the length of stay (p=0.007), whereas age (p=0.080), gender (p=0.623), discharge status (p=0.584), care class (p=0.476), type of service (p=0.398), and region (p=0.542) did not show a significant relationship with the length of stay. Hospitals should monitor and evaluate the length of stay for dyspepsia patients, particularly in relation to payment methods. Enhance coordination among service units, medical records, and the administration or claims department, and improve documentation completeness to streamline service delivery.
