Design rainfall is a crucial parameter in the planning of drainage and flood control systems. Makassar City is prone to inundation due to high rainfall and rapid urban development, necessitating an accurate analysis of design rainfall. This study employs the Gumbel and Log Pearson III distributions to identify the most suitable method for calculating design rainfall as a basis for drainage infrastructure planning in Makassar City. The research examines rainfall characteristics in Makassar City—specifically around the Paotere Maritime Meteorology Station (Stamar Paotere)—where rainfall significantly impacts public mobility and the agricultural sector. Historical rainfall data were obtained from the local BMKG station covering a specific period. The study aims to evaluate and compare the reliability of the Gumbel and Log Pearson III distributions to determine the most representative mathematical model for processing the region's rainfall data. Analysis results indicate that the Gumbel model yields the highest estimated design rainfall values, whereas the Log Pearson III model produces slightly lower projections. Although both methods can be used to project design rainfall, the Gumbel method is considered the most ideal approach for application.
