Abstract

Generation Z demonstrates a high level of interest in healthy lifestyles and fitness, including efforts to shape their appearance and achieve an ideal body standard. The desire to have a body that conforms to these standards may contribute to the development of a positive body image. However, it may also lead to dissatisfaction and concerns about appearance when individuals perceive their bodies as not meeting their expectations. This study aimed to describe the body image of Generation Z who are Fitness Enthusiasts. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach, involving a population of Generation Z Fitness Enthusiasts and a sample of 117 respondents selected using convenience sampling. The body image instrument was developed based on the five aspects of Cash's (2002) theory and demonstrated Corrected Item-Total Correlation values ranging from 0.304 to 0.629, with a reliability coefficient of α = 0.825. The results showed that 62 respondents (53.0%) had a relatively positive body image, while 55 respondents (47.0%) had a relatively negative body image. These findings indicate that respondents with a relatively positive body image were slightly more numerous than those with a relatively negative body image. The findings further suggest that active involvement in fitness does not necessarily result in a positive body image, and that body image among fitness-active young adults remains a multidimensional and heterogeneous experience
