<![CDATA[This study examines the position of women in news coverage of sexual harassment cases discussed on the X account @sampahfhui using Sara Mills’ Critical Discourse Analysis approach. The study is motivated by the prevalence of news coverage and public discussions on social media that often shape specific representations of women who are victims of sexual violence. The objective of this study is to describe how women are positioned within the text both as subjects and objects and how readers are guided to interpret these events. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data sources consisting of posted threads and screenshots of conversations. The data was analyzed based on the concepts of subject-object positioning and reader positioning in Sara Mills’ theory. The results indicate that the @sampahfhui account occupies the subject position as the party conveying and constructing the narrative, while the female victim is more frequently positioned as an object being narrated about, without adequate space to voice her personal experience. The narratives used also indicate the objectification of women’s bodies through the use of specific vocabulary. However, overall, the discourse constructed by this account tends to direct readers to side with the victim, criticize the perpetrator’s behavior, and urge action from the authorities. These findings confirm that language on social media is not neutral but contains power relations.]]>
