Abstract

Background: The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia remains high, particularly in Papua (565 per 100,000 live births). Incomplete abortion is a major cause of complications—specifically hemorrhage and infection influenced by various maternal risk factors. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of incomplete abortion at RSAL dr. Soedibjo Sardadi, Jayapura. Aim: To analyze factors associated with incomplete abortion at RSAL Dr. Soedibjo Sardadi, Papua. Method: A correlational analytic study using a case-control design was conducted in Juli 2026. The study population consisted of medical records of pregnant women from the 2023–2025 period. The sample size was 322 subjects, comprising 161 cases (total sampling) and 161 controls (simple random sampling). Data were collected using a checklist covering age, parity, pregnancy spacing, hemoglobin (Hb) levels, and malaria status. Data analysis employed the Chi-Square test and binary logistic regression. Results: The case group (incomplete abortion) was dominated by mothers with high-risk age (76.4%), grandemultigravida status (51.6%), non-ideal pregnancy spacing (58.4%), anemia (55.3%), and positive malaria status (51.6%). Conversely, the control group was dominated by mothers with non-risk age (84.5%), multigravida status (70.8%), ideal pregnancy spacing (80.1%), no anemia (86.3%), and negative malaria status (94.4%). Conclusion There was a significant association between age, parity, pregnancy spacing, anemia, and endemic malaria with the incidence of incomplete abortion (p < 0.05). Non-ideal pregnancy spacing (<2 years) was the most dominant risk factor, with a 5.097-fold increased risk of incomplete abortion compared to other factors. Keywords: Incomplete abortion, anemia, pregnancy spacing, malaria, parity, age
