Abstract

Biofloc technology supports efficient feed utilization, water quality management, and sustainable aquaculture. However, its community-level application requires adequate knowledge and technical skills, particularly in aeration, water quality, biofloc formation, and feeding management. Therefore, community capacity building through extension and practical training is important to facilitate its appropriate application. This community service program aimed to evaluate changes in participants’ knowledge and to assess their perceptions and initial implementation of biofloc technology in Bojongsoang Village, Bandung Regency, Indonesia. The program involved 40 participants and consisted of extension sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.Evaluation employed a one-group pre-test–post-test design using 25 knowledge questions, a 5-point Likert-scale perception questionnaire, and an observation checklist. The mean knowledge score increased significantly from 10.95 to 21.58 out of a maximum score of 25, representing a 97.1% increase from the pre-test score (t = −31.51; df = 39; p < 0.001). ). Participants showed positive perceptions of the program (mean = 4.19). Initial observations also indicated the application of basic biofloc practices, with the highest scores recorded for water pH management (3.05) and biofloc formation (3.00). The program significantly improved participants’ knowledge, while positive perceptions and initial application of basic biofloc practices were also observed. Continued technical assistance is required to strengthen the consistent application of the technology.
