<![CDATA[This study examines how figurative language functions as a rhetorical strategy for constructing social criticism in the Mandarin punk song Linzhong Nuedai by SMZB. Previous studies on Mandarin song lyrics have primarily focused on identifying and classifying rhetorical devices in Mandopop, with limited attention to how figurative language constructs socio-political meanings in Mandarin punk music. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes the song lyrics using Huang and Liao's (2017) theory of Chinese rhetorical devices within a contextual stylistic framework. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed through the processes of identification, classification, and contextual interpretation. The findings reveal that metaphor, irony, hyperbole, personification, repetition, allusion, paradox, juxtaposition, and rhetorical expressions function collectively to construct political resistance, preserve historical memory, and criticize ideological domination. Rather than serving merely as aesthetic devices, these rhetorical strategies operate as an integrated system through which the lyrics articulate social criticism and collective historical consciousness. This study contributes to Mandarin stylistics by demonstrating how Chinese rhetorical devices function beyond linguistic ornamentation to construct broader socio-political meanings in contemporary Mandarin punk discourse.]]>
