Abstract

Preeclampsia remains a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality and is frequently managed by cesarean section. Altered vascular permeability, proteinuria, and perioperative stress may contribute to reduced serum albumin concentrations. This study aimed to describe serum albumin levels among post-cesarean mothers with preeclampsia at Bendan Regional General Hospital, Pekalongan City, in 2025. A descriptive observational design with a retrospective approach was used. Secondary data were obtained from medical records and laboratory information systems and analyzed descriptively. Previous evidence indicates that hypoalbuminemia is common in preeclampsia and cesarean populations, with lower albumin concentrations associated with severe disease, proteinuria, fluid-related complications, and impaired postoperative recovery. Indonesian multicenter studies further demonstrate a high burden of severe preeclampsia and cesarean delivery. Serum albumin is a clinically relevant complementary laboratory parameter for evaluating post-cesarean mothers with preeclampsia. Its interpretation should be integrated with blood pressure, proteinuria, renal and hepatic function, fluid balance, and postoperative findings, rather than serving as an isolated marker of severity or postoperative prognosis in routine practice. These findings support hospital-based monitoring and further analytical research.
