Abstract

Temporary market activities along urban corridors may generate roadside friction that directly affects traffic performance. This study aims to analyze the impact of temporary market activity around the Bima Sports Complex in Cirebon City on road segment performance using a microsimulation approach. The model was developed in VISSIM based on field data, including road geometry, traffic volume, vehicle composition, speed, and roadside activity characteristics under two conditions: weekday or normal condition and weekend condition when temporary market activity takes place. Model validation was conducted using the GEH statistic by comparing simulated and observed traffic volumes. The validation results showed GEH values ranging from 0.214 to 1.138, indicating that the model was acceptable for comparative performance analysis. The results showed that total traffic volume increased from 3,148 vehicles/hour under normal conditions to 5,557 vehicles/hour on Sunday. This increase was accompanied by the use of roadside space for parking, temporary stopping, trading activities, and pedestrian movements. The average two-direction speed decreased from 27.91 km/h to 5.05 km/h, while the average delay increased from 1.65 seconds/vehicle to 94.48 seconds/vehicle. The level of service also declined from LOS A to LOS F. These findings indicate that road performance degradation was not only caused by increased traffic volume, but also by intensified roadside friction and reduced effective roadway width. The results provide an initial basis for developing temporary traffic management strategies for urban corridors affected by periodic market activities.
