Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to develop, implement, and analyze the effectiveness of the digital "Cermin Diri" questionnaire embedded with age-appropriate Lie Scales on Google Forms to mitigate social desirability bias (SDB) or faking good in Islamic Education (PAI) affective self-assessments focused on the topic "Aku Anak Saleh" at the primary school level. Design/methods– Employing a descriptive evaluative method, this research involved 24 fourth-grade students at Sekolah Alam Qur'an (SAQ) Nur Madani . Data were collected using a digital questionnaire consisting of a 10-item balanced Likert scale (5 favorable and 5 unfavorable items) paired with 2 Lie Scale items (items No. 3 and 6). The self-reported digital data were qualitatively cross-validated against the teacher's anecdotal records using the "Teacher's Observation Veto Power" mechanism. Findings – The class average affective score reached 38.25 (converted score of 95.63; "Very Good" category), with 83.3% of students demonstrating characterization-level internalization (A5). The transition to a digital platform effectively provided private reflection spaces that reduced social peer pressure . The Lie Scale items successfully detected initial faking good tendencies (12.5% on item No. 3 and 8.3% on item No. 6), which were objectively refined through real-world behavioral triangulation. This hybrid model offers a valid, fair, and reliable character assessment framework for primary schools implementing the Merdeka Curriculum.
