<![CDATA[This study examines the implementation, sosio-cultural significance, and changing interpretations of the Uang Panai tradition among the Bugis community in Jeruju Besar Village, Sungai Kakap District. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the Uang Panai Tradition continues to be practiced throught several customary stages, including ma’duta the determination of the Uang Panai amount, and symbolic rituals involving poto’. The socio-cultural meaning of this tradition is formed through social interactions within the family and community, where the values of honor, responsibility, and commitment are passed down from generation to generation. However, there is a shift in meaning between generations, where the younger generation tends to view Uang Panai as assistance with wedding costs rather than a symbol of respect. Nevertheless, the Uang Panai tradition is maintained with more flexible adjustments within a multicultural society.]]>
