This study explores ergonomic issues in secondary school physics laboratories and develops a Laboratory Practice Checklist to improve laboratory conditions and instructional practices. A qualitative multiple case study was conducted with six novice Grade 8 science teachers in selected secondary schools in Pampanga, Philippines. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, non-participant classroom observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis with cross-case synthesis. Within-case analysis revealed context-specific ergonomic challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, limited equipment, overcrowded workspaces, and suboptimal environmental conditions that led to non-neutral student postures and physical discomfort. Cross-case synthesis identified recurring patterns of misalignment between pedagogical goals and laboratory conditions, reliance on improvisation, and the absence of standardized ergonomic and safety protocols, resulting in inconsistent practices and increased instructional demands. A Laboratory Practice Checklist was developed to provide a systematic, evidence-based framework addressing environment, equipment, safety, pedagogy, and procedures. The study offers context-specific insights and a practical tool to support safer, more effective, and ergonomically informed laboratory instruction.
