<![CDATA[Demonstrations are one of the forms of expressing opinions in public that are guaranteed within a democratic system. However, in practice, some demonstrations may escalate into anarchic acts that disrupt public order, damage public facilities, and pose threats to public safety. Under such circumstances, the police have discretionary authority to make decisions based on the situations and conditions in the field in order to maintain a balance between protecting the public's right to express opinions and enforcing the law. This study aims to analyze the implementation of police discretion in handling anarchic demonstrations, identify various challenges faced by police officers, and examine law enforcement strategies that can be implemented effectively and humanely. The research method employed is normative juridical research using a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. The results indicate that the implementation of police discretion plays an important role in determining appropriate measures for handling anarchic demonstrations, particularly in preventing conflict escalation and maintaining security and stability. However, the exercise of discretion faces various challenges, including the dilemma between taking firm action and respecting human rights, public pressure, limited information in the field, and the potential abuse of authority. Therefore, law enforcement strategies are needed that prioritize the principles of proportionality, professionalism, persuasive communication, and oversight of the exercise of discretionary authority. Through the proper implementation of discretion, the police are expected to achieve law enforcement that is effective and just while continuing to uphold democratic values.]]>
