<![CDATA[The problem addressed in this study is the lack of public understanding of how to properly care for orphans. In many cases, people show concern for orphans only during certain events or occasions. However, the Qur’an provides guidance on how to care for, protect, and show compassion toward orphans. This study aims to examine Hamka’s interpretation of the Qur’anic verses concerning the care of orphans from the perspective of Tafsir Al-Azhar and to identify a role model for orphan care in orphanages based on Hamka’s interpretation. This study employs a library research approach. The data sources consist of primary and secondary sources. Data were collected through documentation studies and subsequently analyzed using the maudhu’i (thematic) method. The findings indicate that, according to Hamka’s interpretation in Tafsir Al-Azhar, caring for orphans must be grounded in faith in Allah. Furthermore, the role model for orphan care that can be implemented in orphanages based on Hamka’s interpretation is care based on continuous guidance and development. In conclusion, the care of orphans should be founded upon faith. The Qur’anic verses concerning orphans contain commands to treat them well, prohibitions against mistreating them, and instructions to safeguard their property until they reach maturity. Those primarily responsible for caring for orphans are preferably their relatives. However, if relatives are unable to provide proper care, responsibility may be entrusted to other capable parties, such as social institutions or the government.
