Abstract

This study aims to describe the structure, use of figurative language, and meaning in the poetry anthology Masih Ada Waktu Ketika Senja by Sumiyati and Khaidar Naufal Pasingsingan. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with an objective approach and stylistic analysis. The data sources consisted of seven purposively selected poems: Kaca dan Mata, Lebaran, Begadang, Sia-Sia, Pena Murah, Kekesalan, and Doa. The data comprised words, phrases, lines, and stanzas containing elements of poetic structure, figurative language, and meaning. Data were collected through a literature review, close reading, and note-taking techniques, while data analysis employed content analysis through the stages of data reduction, classification, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the physical structure of the poems is characterized predominantly by the use of connotative diction, visual and emotional imagery, concrete words, free-form typography, and rhyme that contributes to the poetic atmosphere. The inner structure of the poems reflects themes of longing, love, life reflection, social criticism, regret, and religiosity, expressed through predominantly reflective and melancholic tones. The use of figurative language is dominated by metaphor, personification, simile, repetition, hyperbole, irony, paradox, and rhetorical devices, which function to strengthen expression and deepen meaning. The meanings constructed across the seven poems represent human emotional experiences, including love, loss, the search for identity, concern for the environment, and spiritual relationships with God. The findings demonstrate that poetic structure, figurative language, and meaning are interconnected in creating aesthetic unity while effectively conveying messages about life. The results of this study may serve as an alternative teaching resource for poetry appreciation in Indonesian language learning.
