Abstract

This study aimed to describe the visual perception ability of children aged 6–8 years based on the Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception. A quantitative approach with descriptive statistics was used, involving 43 first and second grade elementary school students selected through total sampling. Primary data were obtained directly through the administration of the Frostig Test to the participants and consisted of Perceptual Quotient (PQ) scores and Age Equivalent (AE) scores from five visual perception subtests. Data were analysed using frequency and percentage distributions to describe the PQ categories and AE categories for each subtest. The Frostig Test measures five aspects of visual perception: eye-motor coordination, figure ground perception, form constancy, position in space, and spatial relationships. The results showed that the majority of students (53.5%) were categorized as average based on their Perceptual Quotient (PQ) score. However, the distribution across subtests varied: Subtest I (eye-motor coordination) showed the highest achievement, with all students categorized as above age level, while Subtest II (figure-ground perception) showed the highest proportion of students below age level (76.7%). Subtests III and IV (form constancy and position in space) showed similar patterns dominated by the below-age-level category, whereas Subtest V (spatial relationships) showed a more balanced distribution. These findings indicate that visual perception ability among early elementary school children is multidimensional, with eye-motor coordination developing more optimally than other aspects. This profile can serve as preliminary data for psychologists, teachers, and parents in designing appropriate developmental stimulation.
