Abstract

This study aimed to examine differences in self-esteem following a self-affirmation program by comparing (1) the mirror talk and journaling groups, (2) the mirror talk and control groups, and (3) the journaling and control groups among early adult women. This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design involving 19 early adult women (18-29 years old) with low self-esteem. Participants were divided into three groups: mirror talk (n = 7), journaling (n = 6), and control (n = 6). The intervention was conducted for seven consecutive days, for one hour per day via Zoom Meeting. Self-esteem was measured using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data were analyzed using classical assumption test, paired t-test, descriptive, repeated measure anova test and post hoc comparison with JASP 0.18.3 application. The findings indicated no significant difference between the effects of journalling and mirror talk (p>0.05). However, both methods show that journaling and mirror talk increase self-esteem among early-adult women. The results showed descriptively that self-esteem increased in the mirror talk group from 33.57 to 41.71 and in the journaling group from 33.17 to 40.50, whereas the control group remained relatively stable. However, Holm-adjusted pairwise comparisons showed no significant differences between the mirror talk and journaling groups, the mirror talk and control groups, or the journaling and control groups. Further research with larger samples is needed to establish their effectiveness.
