Abstract

Palm oil as high voltage insulation filling power transformer can attract many researchers in the world at last decade. Palm oil is a biodegradable oil and renewable raw material and it is largely available in Indonesia. Basically, Palm oil is suitable for mineral oil substitution that mineral oil still has some disadvantages and palm oil is good performance in high voltage insulation and coolant to fill a power transformer. The feasible study on palm oil and derivative oils have relative similar in properties with mineral oil. Base on laboratory tests such as breakdown test, creeping discharge and space charge dynamics and oil conductivity show good performance in palm oil. In order to development of palm oil as high voltage insulation, it is shown that the promising of palm oil work as high voltage insulation and coolant is elegantly good.
