Abstract

This study investigated the implementation of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) in speaking learning among students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung Raya (UMBARA). The research aimed to examine the effectiveness of MALL in improving students’ speaking skills and to identify students’ perceptions toward the use of mobile-assisted learning applications in speaking classes. This study employed a mixed-method research design involving quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test speaking assessments and questionnaires, while the qualitative data were obtained through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews. The participants of the study were 30 undergraduate students enrolled in a speaking course at UMBARA. The quantitative findings revealed that students’ speaking achievement improved significantly after the implementation of MALL, as indicated by the increase in the mean score from 68.4 in the pre-test to 82.7 in the post-test. The paired sample t-test also showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. Furthermore, the questionnaire results indicated positive perceptions regarding motivation, confidence, engagement, usefulness, and accessibility of MALL in speaking learning. The qualitative findings showed that MALL created a more interactive and student-centered learning environment, although several challenges such as internet connectivity and technical issues were identified. Overall, the study concluded that MALL is an effective approach for improving students’ speaking skills and learning engagement.Keywords: Keyword; keyword; keyword;
