Abstract

This study compared spray pattern width and painted surface quality between an original F3 spray gun and a modified F3 spray gun at narrow, medium, and wide settings. We used a quantitative experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. We tested each spray gun and pattern-setting combination in three independent replications, resulting in 18 specimens. Spray pattern width was measured at a distance of 15 cm with the air cap in a horizontal position, while surface quality was assessed by two observers using an ordinal 1–5 scale. Inter-rater reliability was analyzed using weighted Cohen’s Kappa. The modified F3 produced average pattern widths of 100.00 mm, 161.67 mm, and 199.00 mm, compared with 91.67 mm, 156.67 mm, and 189.33 mm for the original F3. The increases were 9.09%, 3.19%, and 5.11%, respectively. The modified F3 also received higher surface-quality scores. Kappa values of 0.57, 0.50, and 0.33 indicated moderate to fair agreement.
