Abstract

This research is focused on testing the heat transfer rate from the heat source to the Stirling engine heater. The test was carried out on the Stirling engine heater as a cylindrical tube. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the heat source's temperature on the heater's air temperature. This test was carried out on a Stirling engine with a gamma-type mechanical configuration. The heat source temperature varied in 3 categories, namely between 860-900℃ (I), 780-850℃ (II), and 710-779℃ (III). there were 3 temperature positions measured, namely the temperature of the heat source, the temperature of the outer wall of the heater, and the temperature of the air in the heater. The fuel used for the heat source is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The research results for the heat source temperature in categories I, II, and III resulted in the average temperature on the outside heater wall being 729.8°C, 659.6°C, and 591.3°C, respectively. While the average air temperature in the heater for categories I, II, and III, respectively, is 201.7°C, 130.1°C, and 114.8°C. The 3 variations of heat source temperature show that the given heat source temperature value is very influential and directly proportional to the temperature inside the heater.

Abstract

This study focuses on testing the ability of the LPG burner used in the Stirling engine. The LPG burner combines the fuel flow rate, air flow rate, and flame to produce combustion. This test uses a modified burner and is analyzed by the water boiling test method. The study aimed to determine the thermal efficiency, fuel flow rate, and burner power of the Stirling engine LPG with variations in fuel consumption. Variations in the flow rate of LPG fuel are carried out using a conventional LPG gas burner and turning device with the minimum, medium, and maximum settings. The results showed that the three variations of the mass flow rate of fuel at the minimum conditions had higher efficiency and low fuel consumption, but the burner power produced was very low; namely, 1,714 kW, compared to the medium and maximum requirements. The thermal efficiency parameter value at the minimum condition is 49.91%, and fuel consumption is 0.000036 kg/second or equivalent to 1296 grams/hour. The maximum burner power produced during the test was 4,487 kW.

Abstract

In today's development, metal materials are widely used for various components that can withstand large loads due to their excellent durability and strength. Although composite materials have been found as a substitute for metal, not all machine elements can be replaced with composite materials. as metal functions like bolts. In this case, the bolt failed in the form of a fracture. Therefore it is necessary to research to analyze the failure. This study describes the mechanical properties obtained from the results of bolt testing, which includes tensile testing, hardness testing, and microstructural testing by first being heat treated. The results of the tensile strength test of the specimen for conditions without heat treatment, hardening temperature 850°C, tempering 550°C, and tempering 500°C were 3392.78 MPa, 3478.55 MPa, 3449.95 MPa, and 3402,30 MPa respectively. The hardness values ​​of untreated specimens, hardening 850°C, tempering at 550°C, and tempering at 500°C were 297.4 HRC, 360.8 HRC, 343.2 HRC,  and 329.7 HRC. And in testing the microstructure of the influence of air conditioning media and temperature differences, it produces three microstructures ferrite, pearlite, and martensite.

Abstract

From the results of the modified design of the Peanut Peanut Cake Molding machine on the roll cutting system with variations in the shape of the printout with a capacity of 10 kg/hour, the main components of this machine are 1 drive shaft, 2 pressing rolls, 2 roll conveyors, 1 blade, engine frame, 1 set of conveyor belts as well as engine supporting components such as bearings, driving motors, chains, sprockets, reducers. The next step is to determine the working steps of component manufacture and determine the tools and tools used for component manufacture, including steel rulers, cutting grinders, welding machines, hand grinders, and lathes. From the results of the calculation time for the component manufacturing process to assembly, making the engine mount frame is 4.2 hours, making the drive shaft 3.37 hours, making a roll press 2.2 hours, making a roll conveyor 2.1 hours, making a shaft connection 2.4 hours. , making blades 15.17 hours, making the inlet 1.68 hours, making the outlet 1.53 hours, and machine assembly 5.88 hours. Based on the analysis of making a total processing time of 38.69 hours, the actual time to work until the assembly of the Peanut Peanut Cookie dough molding machine was modified by roll cutting with variations in the shape of the mold for 38.69 hours, the work efficiency of this machine is estimated to be 80% and the processing time is 48.36 hours.

Abstract

Francis turbine is a type of water turbine which is used to convert the potential energy of water into mechanical energy. Improved performance on the Francis turbine is influenced by several factors, one of which is by adjusting the opening of the water valve that will enter the turbine runner. The arrangement of the opening of the water valve that enters the turbine runner is very important to improve the performance of the Francis turbine. The setting of the valve opening of the Francis turbine is useful for obtaining optimization values ​​from the Francis turbine test. In this Francis turbine test, the valve opening is adjusted with an opening of 90°, 75°, 60°, 45°. From the results of this study, it was found that 90° valve opening produces 112.855 W turbine power, 75° valve opening produces 102.801 W turbine power, at 60° valve opening produces 95.287 W turbine power and at 45° valve opening produces turbine power of 82.608 W. The best performance is obtained from 90° valve opening because the turbine power generated is greater.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology today is a challenge that must be considered by making technology itself. However, not many pay attention to the qualified aspects that must be in technology.  Which can have a bad influence on the work environment. Therefore, this study aims to obtain a re-design and model of a free fall impact test equipment, obtain the main components of a free fall impact test equipment with the drop weight test method and obtain a manufacturing process. This design method uses Autocad software and Ansys Workbench Simulation 14.5. Based on the simulation results, the free fall impact test equipment with the number of each component, namely: 3-node and 4-node. The difference between theoretical calculations and simulation calculations in each component, namely the main structure pole, obtained voltage 1,455, voltage 1.345 and Poisson ratio 0.7, the launcher pipe obtained voltage 1.451, voltage 1.346, Poisson ratio 0.04 and friction coefficient 265.10, anvil table obtained voltage 1.248, Poisson ratio 0.02 and Safety factor 11. The work on the free fall impact test equipment has a manufacturing time of 54.1 minutes.

Abstract

This research studies the analysis of the performance of biogas fuel on exhaust gas emissions produced by the engine generator set and as an operational generator from gasoline-fueled to biogas fuel, modifications to the carburetor are necessary. In a complete combustion reaction there are inhibitory gases such as carbon dioxide, impurity gases such as hydrogen sulfide, and gases required for combustion such as oxygen, and incomplete combustion will produce monoxide gas. This test was carried out using gas chromatography at 0/no load, 300, 600, 900 Watt loading. The analysis carried out in this study includes the calorific value that occurs, the combustion reaction, power, torque, average adequate pressure, specific fuel consumption, and thermal events that occur in the generator. Based on the results of research conducted, it is more efficient to use purified biogas for the lowest CO2 emissions of 9.1089%, for O2 of 16.7165%. Based on the results of research conducted it is more efficient to use purified biogas for the lowest CO2 exhaust emissions of 9.1089%, for O2 of 16.7165% but in terms of combustion quality, the use of gasoline is better than biogas of 30381 kJ/kg due to the element content higher carbon gasoline.

Abstract

The problem of noise exists in our living environment both inside and outside the house and many people are not aware of the consequences of this noise even though they experience discomfort. Noise is an unwanted sound by humans because it can interfere with human hearing, especially those caused by electrical appliances in the kitchen such as blenders. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using banana midrib as a composite material for coating a blender housing to reduce noise. The research method is carried out by testing the impedance tube of the composite material sample with fine banana midrib fiber with a mesh diameter of ± 1 mm and a coarse sample of 2 mm to 5 mm, and also measuring sound level with sound absorption at the initial noise level of the room 41 dB. with a distance of 1 meter and a time multiple of 3 seconds for 2 minutes. The results of this study showed that the banana midrib coating had a 3% decrease for the no-load coating and a 2% decrease for the load-bearing coating.

Abstract

The need for energy is now increasing in line with the development of human and economic growth. If you only rely on fossil energy, the needs in the next few years will greatly impact the balance of natural resources. Along with the development of the times and followed by the depletion of fossil resource reserves which have been energy throughout the world, it has given birth to many technologies for converting renewable natural resources as an effort to emphasize the use of fossil fuels. One such technology is a fluidized bed combustor (FBC). This study explains the use of waste fuel which can be used as fluidization combustion chamber planning. In designing the number of holes and the diameter of the holes, the distributor type of perforated plate is very good at distributing air flow to the sand bed for the fluidization process. The difference due to the height of the sand can be seen in the sand height of 3 cm, it takes 16 minutes to carry out the preheating process, 4 cm the height of the sand takes 18 minutes to preheating and the sand height of 5 cm takes 21 minutes to carry out the preheating process. So it can be seen, the higher the sand, the longer the preheating process but the heat storage process on the bed is better.

Abstract

The influence of silica (silicon dioxide) on mechanical properties of modified epoxy resin were studied using computer modelling. Particulate composite was made of Eposchon resin system and modified with 0, 2, 4 and 5% of silica by weight. Salome Meca open source software is applied to model three point bend test. The results were validated by means of experimental outcomes. It was shown that that bending strength of modified epoxy resin was improved by 14% for the maximum with 4% of silica content. On the other hand, fracture toughness were decreased as silica particles introduce into the epoxy system. Furthermore, fracture toughness enhanced as the content of silica higher up to 5%. It is concluded that silica from rice husk is a potential filler for polymer composite materials.
