Abstract

Household waste, particularly organic waste, remains an environmental problem that requires appropriate management and utilization. Organic waste generated from household activities has the potential to be reused as a useful product, one of which is through the production of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). This community service activity aimed to introduce the utilization of household organic waste as a raw material for producing LOF to the community of Peniron Village. The activity began with observations and interviews to identify the existing conditions of household waste management in Peniron Village. This was followed by education on organic waste management and a demonstration of LOF production, followed by post-activity monitoring to determine the utilization of the LOF produced. The educational and demonstration activities introduced an alternative method of utilizing household organic waste to produce LOF, as well as the use of organic materials available in the surrounding environment. The monitoring results showed that the LOF produced was still being utilized by the community after the activity. The findings indicated that some community members continued producing LOF independently after the activity by utilizing household organic waste. The resulting LOF was then used for watering plants. These findings indicate that the utilization of organic waste continued to be practiced by the community after the community service activity. This activity can serve as an alternative approach to introducing simple household organic waste management by utilizing materials readily available in the surrounding environment.
